Ripegrow Enterprise seeks to become a prototype of how other arid areas ought to be .

Ripegrow Enterprise is a farm located in Makueni County, Kenya. It is situated in one of the driest parts of the County, a village called Mavindini.

The ASALs of Kenya account for 80 percent of the total land coverage and 53 percent of Africa’s total land. The arid areas are characterized with temperatures ranging between 15C and 30C with annual rainfall measuring 850 to 1000mm. Horticultural crops, tropical fruits to be specific, are well adapted to such climatic conditions. However, the challenge with ASALs is the scarcity of water in which Ripegrow Enterprise farm seeks to overcome by implementing innovative measures such as use of soil cover, use of drip irrigation system to maximize the utilization of the minimum water available. Further, the farm implements methods such as grafting of the fruit trees with the aim of reducing the maturity period of crops which tend to take long periods to flowering and fruiting stages.

Ripegrow Enterprise seeks to become a prototype of how other arid areas ought to be. These moves are going to guarantee, increased farm incomes, improved food security all in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

We have so far managed to train farmers on drip irrigation as well as supply them with certified seedlings. We have pawpaw, grafted passion and other fruit & tree seedlings.
